Rodents, cockroaches and bedbugs, the most widespread pests in Spain in the last five years
The most widespread in Spain Pest – Pest Control in TenerifeRoedores, cockroaches and bedbugs are the most prevalent pests in Spain in the last five years as a result of the growth of cities, globalization, climate change, increased travel or transit of goods across the world, as it has shown a study by the National Association of Pest Control (ANECPLA).
This is an investigation that has been aimed at analyzing the evolution of biocide services sector and urban pests in Spain and Portugal, in the last five years, and has been presented today as part of the Professional Congress and Fair Control Pest and Environmental Health, ‘EXPOCIDA IBERIA 2014’.
And, beyond borders and pests are a serious environmental and public health problem. “In the coming years we will see an increase in the pest population. Growth of cities, global warming, with shorter increasingly mild winters and reproductive cycles, and the expansion of tourism, contribute largely to it” he asserted the director general of ANECPLA, Milagros Fernández de Lezeta.
Besides fighting traditional pest species such as bedbugs, which until recently were eradicated in Spain, companies other black alien invasive species such as the tiger mosquito, the Asian and American wasp, the red palm weevil and now face the Argentina parrot, the parrot ‘Kramer’ or ‘Periplaneta’ americana (American cockroach). The cockroach ‘Supella longipalpa’, of African origin, and known as the Brown-banded cockroach is one of the last species that threatens to settle in Spain.
Specifically, the study by ANECPLA notes that the largest increases, by species and establishment, have been recorded in the control of cockroaches and rodents, except in hotels where services against bedbugs are those who have experienced greater increase, followed by cockroaches.
